It laughable that there is so much furor going on about cross the Channel illegal migration and laughable that Farage and Reform have built their particular brand of politics on such an issue. In actual fact Nigel Farage is mostly to blame for the predicament that we now find ourselves in, as are all the people who voted for Brexit. The outcome of Brexit would always be that France would stop protecting our borders was always obvious. Why they couldn’t see this would be the result of Brexit is laughable. In my posts against Brexit I raised it as a strong possibility even before Brexit actually happened.
Farage and his Brexit Party instigated Brexit by putting pressure on the Tories to start to listen to the anti European Union Campaign. It was David Cameron who eventually gave into the pressure from the right wing because of a wave of anti European sentiments in his own party. At that time the Tories were imploding regarding their stance on EU membership. Cameron made a pact with the devil to both unify his disintegrating Party and to win the forthcoming General Election by promising the voting public a referendum on our EU membership.
Cameron was pretty sure that a public vote would result in remaining in the EU. It was a gamble that backfired miserably. Cameron never thought that the Leave Campaign would win. Cameron got his Tory Party back into power but sensationally Cameron couldn’t stomach steering the ship through the choppy waters of Brexit so he resigned as Party Leader. He never thought that he would have to. Giving the general public their say on matters on which they knew very little was singularly the worst political gaffe by a Prime Minister in history. It was an abandonment of responsibility letting the general public decide. It allowed the extreme right wing and those with prejudices to have their say in the future of Britain. It was the single biggest mistake by a British Prime Minister in history.
