Thatcher misled and mis-sold privatizations in the 80’s and 90’s

Margaret Thatcher misled and mis-sold the privatisations her government’s brought in during the 80’s and 90’s. Current governments should be exploring the legality of these privatizations and seeking the reverse them  by taking these matters to court if necessary. Additionally, privatisations have had lasting negative impacts on public services. There have been costs to the consumer and detrimental effects on the enivornment and particularly the aquatic enviroments. There have been negative effects on tourism and the leisure industries. Privatisations have had a massive effect on the UK and the stench of Thatcher still pervades in Britain with subsequent governments failing to reverse the negative harm of her privatisations. Thatcher mis-sold privatisations by making claims about them that proved to be untruthful.

The awful stench of Thatcher still hangs over the UK. The failure of subsequent governments, including those of Tony Blair, did nothing to rid the UK of the stench of Thatcher. Her legacy still hampers the UK and debilitates us. It is responsible for the high energy prices and the pollution of our aquatic environments. We were told that we would get better services and at low prices: but instead we got polluted coasts and rivers and a collapsing infrastructure getting worse and worse every year through decay and neglect by private companies who are only interested in shareholders dividends and fat cat payouts to directors. This is the reality and a direct result of privatisations.

The privatizations were illegal because the public was misinformed

These privatizations of Thatcher’s snatch were illegal. Thatcher misrepresented and mis-sold privatisatons to the British Public by making unsubstatiated claims that services would be improved and costs to consumers would be diminished. The privatizations were illegal because the public was misinformed. There was too much optimism about how the privatizing companies would behave. There were no checks and safeguards put in place to eliminate greed in a capitalist marketplace. Companies were given total freedom including flotation on the stock market and expanding their business areas beyond the custodianship of our utilities or core services. Shareholders dividends became the driving factor and the core principles of custodianship were sidelined and ignored. Hence customer value was eroded and ignored. Because these companies were floated on the stock market they were bought up by companies outside the UK that had no regard for the environmental standards of this country or even the general well-being of the people inhabitants of the UK.

Water is now a National Crisis in the UK as such Britain should be placed on a war footing against the Water companies who are the enemies of the UK

Water companies in the UK have been doing things which makes them an enemy of the UK. They have been polluting the aquatic environment ever since privatizations of the 80’s and 90’s. They have been putting the health of the British Public at risk for almost 40 years. They have let the whole water system’sinfrastructure and assets fall into neglect and decay  hence putting everyone at risk. They are still doing it today and to further insult us they asking the general public as consumer’s to foot the bill for their years of neglect and underinvestment. These companies are corrupt and still harmful because in the past they have ignored warnings from government and lobbyists. There is no way that these irresponsible companies should be responsible for the management and custodianship of our resources and aquatic environments. They are enemies of the UK. They have breached our trust time and time again. They have lied to us and manipulated figures to protect their positions whilst still carrying on with the same philosohies and detrimental behavious. Furthermore, privatisations have only benefited a small group while the wider public suffers.

People of the UK  had a right to expect more from privatisations instead they were mis-sold to them by Thatcher

People of Britain have a right to expect that these companies would have safeguarded the interests of the UK’s citizens : but instead we have seen a flagrant disregard and disrespect expressed to every UK citizen by polluting our Aquatic Environments and running down our valuable infrastructure into a decaying and collapsing state of disrepair that is going to cost millions to every bill payer to be able to put it right to bring it to an adequate state that reflects the needs of the modern consumer. We have been lied to by these companies since their inception. We are still being lied to. However at the very heart of the matter is that the stench of Thatcherism and Thatcher’s policies are to blame. The public was mi-sold and misinformed about the true impact and likely consequences of these privatisations. Obviously there are governments that have been complicit in letting these matters carry on and also the Environment Agency is also guilty and complicit in letting these matters accumulate and get out of hand. Because these water companies were private companies they have been left unchecked and largely unregulated and unaccountable. Water should never have been allowed to privatise becuase it should be subject a high level of scrutiny and public health checks. Thatcher’s privasations were illegal and should not be binding on today society. Thatcher misled and mis-sold privatizations in the 80’s and 90’s. In conclusion, reforming privatisations must remain a priority for future governments.
